Arcona Studio in Santa Monica: An Insider’s Favorite

Friday, May 14th, 2010
The Arcona Studio in Santa Monica. Below, the entrance to the studio. With the rise of the “green” movement, skincare aficionados have increasingly faced two choices: effectively treat your skin while subjecting it to a host of preservatives, or embrace a natural regimen that brings little-to-no skincare change. Arcona Studio, a luxurious Santa Monica spa with its own power-packed line and cult celebrity following, has been quietly leading the charge through its treatments and innovative products to ensure that women can have it all: glamorous, vanity-display-worthy serums and lotions free of parabens, petrochemicals, binders, and dyes, but which still feature anti-aging musts such as peptides and retinol. Originally founded in Studio City in 1989, Arcona’s passionate following developed by word-of-mouth, with each new convert convinced she’d stumbled upon something extraordinary. (Several of these whispered, “You must try this place!” urgings made their way to our own ears.) In 2007, Arcona Studio moved to a bigger space in Santa Monica, in clear view of the beach. At 2,600 square feet, the space is intimate and serene, with eggshell-hued walls, classical music, four treatment rooms devoted to face, and two devoted to body. (There’s also an infrared sauna that helps reduce pain and fatigue while eliminating up to 500 calories in a session.) The treatment offerings—such as Facial Contouring with Oxygen Therapy ($135) including acupressure and lymph drainage; Healing Rosacea Treatment ($115) combining herbs and minerals, an anti-inflammatory mask, oxygen and LED therapy; and Customized Fruit Enzyme Peel Treatment ($145) to promote circulation, resurface and cleanse—are all designed to enact visible change in the face and body after just one session.
