The Karate Kid Is Being Remade…. What The F*ck Is Hollywood Doing!?
The Karate Kid apparently looks dated, and so they are gathering up ideas to make a new one (on IMDB already) with Will Smith’s son taking up the lead role.
I’m pretty sure the fact that it was made in the 80s, looks dated and has an incredibly cheesy soundtrack IS the reason why so many people (me included) love this film!!!
Mr Miyagi is turning in his grave. I just know it.

I for one will not be watching a remake. Ugh. Hollywood must be running out of fresh ideas.

I don’t think the movie is that dated. Sure, the soundtrack is pretty awful (except for Conti’s score and the Bananarama song) and they have longer hair, but you find that with any movie set in the past. People don’t see “Rocky” as a dated movie even though some of the people in it have sideburns or longer hair.
Why are they remaking it? Because out of all the people old enough to remember the film, two of them are like you and me and find it unnecessary and fifty morons will go to see just because it’s about something from their childhood.

I grew up on the Karate Kid movies. I didn’t care much for “The Next Karate Kid” except for the fact that a young Hilary Swank was in it (and I love hilary swank, but more for her later roles, when she got better at acting and her body filled out more).
We’ll see how they do the remake.
I fear that one day, they’ll remake the movie: “Legend of Billie Jean” and they won’t even include the signature song by Pat Benatar, “Invincible” and it will ruin the whole thing for me.

an easy one, its a idea the movie folks have come up with that fits a formula to make money. it’s simply seen as a cheap sort of film to make and a good profit margin. using will smith’s son is another cheap way of appealing to easily led young folk to part with their bucks.

What a waste of time, money and resources…somebody should give them a call and make them aware that it can NEVER work! How can it? I’d bet any money it’ll be a major flop. You’re right in what you say about being dated, it’s a good thing most definitely!

Yeah money is all the movie people care about now, it seems making a good, original film is a thing of the past. I thought the same thing when the Italian Job was remade.
